| Online Student Authors |
Eschool News consistently sends emails which features many interesting technological information. (eschoolnews@eschoolnews) Of particular interest this week was an article on Students as Published Authors by a company Word Ventures. (http://www. wordventures.com) This article caught my attention because presently my Educ 8823 course is presently featuring blogs, which helps to develop authors, even from among students.
One might ask, what makes online writing different, why is appealing about using a keyboard instead of a pen? Well, for sure, the immediate feedback and audience brings about the difference. Students who published online, become a body of a collaborative movement who are joined on the web. New thoughts are formed as a result of various perspectives on a specific topic. Online writing sets a stage for analysis and response, quickly and accurately. Maybe someone in Greece who understands the culture of Athens would assist an American student whose approach is based on theory.
This is just the beginning, Online writing leading to collaborative learning will soon dominate the Literary Block. Marcelle

Marcelle, My students do seem to become more engaged when they collaborate on line. They seem like different people from those I try to drag discussions out of in class. Information I know they are familiar with and have some opinion about is "backed up" inside of them trying to get out. When they get to use a discussion board, they say a great deal more. I am looking forward to setting up a secure blog space for them (when I get authoriazation and access). Z

You speak of Greece. I'm collaborating in a development of student activity with the Odessey, story in Freshman English. If you would like to see what we are goning to do why do you check my school blog come the middle of the month. http://worldhistoryatedisonhs.blogspot.com It should be interesting.

Zaria,
Thanks for responding to my blog, for a while I thought I was out there on a limb all alone. Yes, I agree, you understand your students a bit more when you are able to read their work from a different angle. Marcelle
